He is a specialist in Hemostasis with special research interest in HIV Medicine, coagulopathy and sickle cell disease. He currently teaches Haematology at the college of Medicine of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for the past 27 years.
He was awarded a national honour by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2007 in the category of medical contribution with an MON (Member of the Order of Niger).
He had at various times served as the Principal Investigator for the clinical trial of the antiretroviral drug role out by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2001 in ABUTH, the PI for the Global Funds HIV intervention at ABU, the PI for the Harvard School of Public Health PEPFAR supported HIV treatment and Research program at ABU, the PI for the MEPIN ( Medical Education Partnership Initiative in Nigeria) at ABU and currently the PI for the STAMINA research group at ABU. Both are US NIH grants.
Currently he is the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences at ABU and the Chair of the APIN HEALTH INIATIVE IRB.
